Agriculture Value Chain Financing launched in Samtse

#Samtse: Agriculture Value Chain Financing was launched in Samtse yesterday, marking a significant step towards changing the way agricultural finance reaches farmers.

The initiative launched by Samtse Dzongkhag Administration and Bhutan Development Bank Limited brings farmers, aggregators, processors, traders and markets together as one connected value chain. It will help create pathways for financing to reach producers, strengthen market linkages, manage risks and ensure that more value remains with those who produce it.

Under the new framework, financing decisions will be based on market opportunities, contracts and cash flows, rather than relying primarily on traditional collateral-based lending. For farmers, this means better opportunities to access financing, reach reliable markets and build more stable incomes and livelihoods.

The initial phase will focus on three promising products: ginger, turmeric and moringa tea. The event also showcased various value-added agricultural and livestock products, offering a glimpse into the potential of local products and opportunities to strengthen value addition.
