Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation in Education between Bhutan and Sri Lanka

A bilateral meeting was held yesterday between the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and the Hon’ble Minister of Education and Skills Development of Bhutan, accompanied by their respective delegations, to deliberate on opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of education.

The discussions explored potential areas of collaboration, including:
• Teacher and student exchange programmes to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, experiences and good practices between the two countries;
• Higher education opportunities for Bhutanese students in Sri Lanka, including the continuation and expansion of opportunities in medical education and other priority fields;
• Technical and vocational education and skills development, with emphasis on sharing expertise, practices and institutional experiences;
• Strengthening STEM education through cooperation, knowledge exchange and the sharing of innovative approaches; and
• Further opportunities to facilitate access to higher education in Sri Lanka for Bhutanese students.

The meeting underscored the longstanding friendship and close relations between Bhutan and Sri Lanka and reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to further strengthen cooperation in education and skills development, particularly in creating greater learning and capacity-building opportunities for students, teachers and education professionals of the two countries.
