Hon’ble Lyonpo Visits Schools in Chukha Dzongkhag

The Hon’ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development is on an official tour of Chhukha Dzongkhag from October 22 to 27, engaging with teachers and students while gaining first-hand insights into the learning environments across schools.

On October 22, Lyonpo visited Tsimalakha Middle Secondary School (MSS) and Chukha Central School (CS), where she interacted with teachers and students. Today, she continued her visit to two remote schools, Ketokha Primary School (PS) and Bongo PS.

During her interactions with teachers, Lyonpo shared updates on the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives, including the teacher immersion programme, Cambridge-aligned curriculum, Teacher Professional Council, school feeding programme, per-child capita model and central schools. These initiatives reflect the Ministry’s efforts to improve the quality of education and create better opportunities for both teachers and students.

Recognising that teachers are central to every child’s learning journey, Lyonpo spoke about the importance of mental health and personal well-being. She reminded teachers that while they dedicate themselves to guiding and nurturing young people, their own well-being deserves equal care and attention.

Concerns related to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities, Individual Work Plans, Teacher Requirement Exercise, contract teachers and transfers were also raised and addressed during the discussions.

Addressing the students, Lyonpo highlighted the importance of their emotional well-being, drawing attention to concerns surrounding suicide and substance abuse among young people. She encouraged them to stay focused on their studies, remain mentally and emotionally strong, and never hesitate to speak up or seek help when facing difficulties. Reaching out for support, she emphasised, is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Lyonpo reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued commitment to strengthening the education system, supporting teachers in their noble profession and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

The tour will continue with visits to Chungkha PS, Tashilakha PS, Pakshikha CS, Darla Higher Secondary School, Meretsemo PS, Alaykha PS and Wangchu MSS.
