A Japanese delegation comprising Mr. Kazuhiko Ohe, Mayor of Ama Town; Mr. Hiroki Miura, Mayor of Hamada City; and other Japanese officials called on the Honโble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development yesterday. The delegation was accompanied by the Chief Representative of the JICA Bhutan Office.
Welcoming the delegation, Lyonpo expressed appreciation for Japanโs longstanding friendship with Bhutan and JICAโs significant support to the countryโs education sector.
The discussions focused on the JICA partnership program, particularly the Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Arts Education initiatives being implemented in selected schools. The meeting also explored opportunities to expand PBL initiatives to more schools and strengthen collaboration through teacher and student exchange programmes.
The delegation is in Bhutan to participate in the Bhutan-Japan 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations: Bhutan-Hamada City & Ama Town Cooperation and Exchange Commemorative Symposium, scheduled to be held in Thimphu on 9 October 2026.
