The Programme and Youth Coordination Division under the Department of Education Programmes, in partnership with the Japan Foundation, launched the Japanese Language Programme in Thimphu yesterday.
The launch was attended by the Director of the Department of Education Programmes and representatives from the Japan Foundation and relevant agencies.
The programme was initiated in June 2026 with an interim instructor and is now being formally launched following the placement of a full-time Japanese language instructor. Currently, 36 learners are enrolled in the programme.
Rolled out through the Thimphu Youth Centre, the programme offers classes in the evenings and on weekends, allowing learners to pursue Japanese language studies alongside their work, education and other commitments.
The initiative, supported by the Japan Foundation, aims to expand opportunities for language learning while promoting cultural understanding and strengthening people-to-people connections between Bhutan and Japan.
