Hon’ble Lyonpo visits Samtse
The Hon’ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development is on an official tour of Samtse from August 23 to 29, engaging with teachers, students and communities to strengthen support for schools and gain a better understanding of their concerns.
On August 24, Lyonpo visited Denchukha Lower Secondary School, where she met with teachers and students and emphasised the importance of prioritising the safety and well-being of every student and teacher. She commended the school management for remaining committed to its responsibilities despite the emotional challenges experienced by the school.
Addressing further, Lyonpo expressed concern over the growing instances of bullying and corporal punishment and reiterated that the Ministry has zero tolerance for such practices. She urged students and teachers not to hesitate to seek help and support whenever they face emotional or other challenges.
Established in 1974, Denchukha Lower Secondary School is among the remotest schools in Samtse, with access becoming particularly difficult during the monsoon. The school currently has 254 students, including 117 girls and 137 boys, supported by 15 teaching staff.
On her return, Lyonpo visited another remote school, Lingden Primary School, where she interacted with teachers and students and learned about the school’s management and the challenges it faces. The school has 51 students, including 27 girls and 24 boys, with seven teaching staff.
The tour also includes engagements with communities from four gewogs and the inauguration of development activities aimed at reducing risks and improving access for community members, including students.
