150 Scouts Complete 23rd Scouts Leadership Training
A total of 150 Class IX scout students, including 66 male and 84 female from schools across all 20 Dzongkhags and four Thromdes, successfully completed the 23rd Scouts Leadership Training on July 23.
Held at the National Scout Center in Paro from July 6, the training aimed to strengthen the leadership qualities of promising young scouts and prepare them to become responsible citizens and future leaders.
Throughout the programme, the scouts engaged in leadership sessions, team-building exercises, outdoor adventures, and community service activities designed to develop discipline, responsibility, self-reliance, resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills. The event also promoted physical and mental well-being through a range of structured and intensive activities.
Participants were selected based on various criteria including academic performance, leadership roles, punctuality, discipline, participation in co-curricular activities, and involvement in voluntary community service.
Gracing the closing ceremony, the Hon’ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development congratulated the young scouts on successfully completing the programme. She emphasised the importance of upholding the values of scouting, encouraging participants to lead with integrity, compassion, and responsibility.
Reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing responsible, compassionate, and capable young minds through holistic education, Lyonpo highlighted the importance of leadership development programmes in shaping Bhutan’s future.
“Programmes such as this leadership training play a pivotal role in developing future leaders who embody integrity, patriotism, and a strong sense of service to the nation,” Lyonpo said.
The Scouts and Sports Division under the Department of Education Programmes, jointly with the Royal Bhutan Army’s Commando Wing in Shaba organised the training, which is held twice a year. To date, a total of 2,922 scout leaders have completed the program, including 1,462 male and 1,460 female.
According to a spokesperson, scouts who complete the leadership training often assume important responsibilities such as patrol leaders, event coordinators, community service organisers, and youth advocates. He added that the knowledge and experiences gained through the training will also prepare the scouts to actively participate in the Gyalsung and Pelsung programmes.
