Strengthening Bhutan-India Education Collaboration

The Hon’ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development successfully concluded a visit to New Delhi, India from 25-28 June, reaffirming the longstanding education partnership between Bhutan and India.

As part of the visit, on June 26, Lyonpo paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Union Minister for Education of India, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. During the meeting, Their Excellencies emphasised expanding teacher exchange programmes and institutional partnerships in STEM, inclusive education and educational leadership. They also explored opportunities to advance collaboration in digital education including the use of AI, TVET in schools and play-based learning.

The following day, Lyonpo visited Amity University in Noida to further strengthen collaboration in teacher training and academic partnerships while exploring innovative educational practices and technologies.

The university has been a key partner in supporting Bhutan’s teacher capacity-building initiatives with 120 Bhutanese teachers participating in immersion programs over the past year. These programs have equipped our teachers with practical knowledge and innovative teaching strategies that will further enrich classroom practices across schools in Bhutan.

The visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between Bhutan and India while opening new pathways for collaboration in various educational domains. The initiatives discussed are expected to contribute significantly to the ongoing development and transformation of Bhutan’s education sector, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of students and educators.
