On April 17, the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, the Ministry of Finance, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) formally signed the Record of Discussion for a USD 9.5 million grant to support “School Nutrition and Local Agriculture through Home-Grown School Feeding (Phase II)” in Bhutan.

The project will focus on improving the quality, safety, and sustainability of school meals. Key interventions include the construction of kitchens and stores in 20 schools as well as the renovation of such facilities in 30 schools. It will also provide modern kitchen equipment and support capacity development through training of school staff, meal planners, and cooks, along with nutrition and hygiene awareness initiatives for students.

In addition, the initiative will strengthen national school feeding systems and establish home-grown supply chains by supporting farmer groups with skills, tools, and infrastructure. This integrated approach is expected to enhance student nutrition and learning environments while promoting sustainable livelihoods and local agricultural development.
