The Ministry honoured six students today for their exceptional performance in the โHis Royal Highness Gyalsey Annual Mathematics Awardโ competition. The awards were presented by the Honโble Lyonpo along with Dasho Arun Kapur, Director of the Druk Gyalpoโs Institute, at a formal ceremony celebrating the achievements of young mathematicians from across the country.
In the Middle Secondary School category including students of classes IX and X, Anju Gautam from Phuentsholing HSS secured the first position while Ausmithata Gurung from Dagapela MSS and Sangay Drukdra from Phobjikha HSS stood second and third, respectively.
Wangchuk Sonam from Sherubling HSS emerged as the winner in the Higher Secondary School category participated by students of classes 11 and 12. Srijan Adhikari from Norbugang HSS and Ngawang Pelden from Kunzangling HSS bagged the second and third positions, respectively.
The winners of both categories received merit certificates and a cash prize of Nu.150,000 each. The second and third place holders received merit certificates and cash prizes of Nu.100,000 and Nu.75,000, respectively.
The competition held in November 2025 saw wide participation from schools across the country with 2,796 students competing in Category 1 and 1,406 students in Category 2.
Instituted in collaboration with the Druk Gyalpoโs Institute, the annual award aims to recognise and nurture studentsโ mathematical reasoning and logical thinking, while fostering a deeper appreciation of Mathematics among both students and teachers.
