Understand their role as climate champions in Bhutanโ€™s climate policy, more than 50 young people attended a sensitisation programme on the outcomes of COP 30 and Bhutanโ€™s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0 in Thimphu today.

During the event, representatives of the youth groups presented and discussed the impacts of climate change and adaptation, waste management and the meaningful participation of youth in both grassroots, national and global policy processes. Youth advocates presented climate action projects, such as Climate LAW and Waste Management Initiatives, which they had led in their communities. In addition, young representatives shared updates from a global youth engagement platform, YOUNGO and the Local Conference of Youth, highlighting how Bhutanese youth are contributing to international climate dialogue.

These youth initiatives are aligned with Bhutanโ€™s NDC 3.0 priorities: Climate LAW supports governance, capacity-building and climate education; waste management advances mitigation and circular economy measures in the waste sector; and participation in YOUNGO and the Local Conference of Youth strengthens youth engagement in international and national climate processes.

The event was organised by Programme and Youth Coordination Division of the Department of Education Programmes, MOESD in partnership with the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR) and UNICEF Bhutan.
