The 22nd batch of Scouts Leadership Training concluded on January 14 at Norbuling Central School in Sarpang with a certificate awarding ceremony graced by the Honโ€™ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Lyonpo highlighted that leadership is not defined by authority but by responsibility, doing the right thing even when no one is watching, helping others, standing up for justice and making honest decisions. She emphasised that young leaders must lead by example through good behaviour, discipline and respect for others.

The training held from December 25 brought together 150 Class IX scout students including 70 boys and 80 girls from schools across all 20 Dzongkhags and four Thromdes. The program focused on the holistic development of young leaders by integrating physical fitness, spiritual grounding, personal growth, adventure and resilience, intellectual engagement, social responsibility, and cultural enrichment. It also played a crucial role in enhancing their physical and mental well-being through structured and intense activities.

An active scout holding the Third Rank, Sharibu in Scouting was selected for the training based on criteria such as academic performance, leadership role in the school, punctuality, discipline, participation in co-curricular activities and involvement in community voluntary service.

A team from the Scouts and Sports Division, DEP and the Royal Bhutan Army including 40 senior trained scouts facilitated the training.

To date, there are 2756 trained scout leaders including 1393 boys and 1363 girls. In addition, there are 4727 trained adult scout leaders including male 2626 male and 2101 female. The leadership training is held twice a year with the next batch expected to be held July 2026.

Initiated in 2013 under the Royal Command of His Majesty The King, the training aims to revitalise the scouting programme and enhance meaningful youth engagement across the country.

According to the organiser, the program consistently produced confident, value-driven and service-oriented youth leaders who are equipped to positively influence their schools and communities.
