The 17th National School Games concluded on December 28 at Sarpang Central School with an award ceremony graced by the Honโ€™ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development. The five-day national event was held under the theme, โ€œYouth Development through Sports.โ€

Addressing the program, Lyonpo highlighted the Ministryโ€™s commitment to fostering a vibrant sporting culture in schools as a key component of holistic child development. She encouraged students to embrace active and healthy lifestyles through regular participation in sports and physical activities, noting their importance not only for personal well-being and education but also for future career opportunities within the sports sector.

A total of 420 students from 53 schools across the country participated in the games with enthusiasm, team spirit and pride. These students were winners of the Dzongkhag School Sports Meets and Regional School Sports Meets. Over the five-day competition, both boys and girls competed in table tennis, volleyball, basketball, badminton, chess and aerobics, which was introduced for the first time.

The event served as a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents while also nurturing values such as teamwork, discipline, mutual respect and leadership and promoting the importance of a healthy lifestyle among students.

Adding to the educational experience, the Bhutan Olympic Committee set up an Olympic Hub station showcasing books, photographs, stories, achievements and Bhutanโ€™s sporting history to promote Olympic values and inspire athletes.

Beyond the sports competitions, the event featured live performances, motivational sharing sessions, food stalls and various engaging activities, creating a festive atmosphere for all.

The Ministry of Education and Skills Development in collaboration with the Bhutan Olympic Committee organised the event with support from Olympic Solidarity.
