The 17th National School Games 2025 commenced today in Sarpang. The opening ceremony was graced by the Honโble Dasho Dr. Lotay Tshering, Governor of Gelephu Mindfulness City, as the Chief Guest.
The Games are being organised by the Department of Education Programmes, in collaboration with the Bhutan Olympic Committee.
A total of 420 student-athletes, all winners of the Dzongkhag School Sports Meets and Regional School Sports Meets, are participating in this national-level event.
Over the five-day competition, both boys and girls will compete in basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess, and aerobics. In addition to the sporting events, a range of evening programmes including movie screenings, talks by influencers, talent shows, and live concerts have been organised to enrich the overall experience of the participants.
Held under the theme โYouth Development through Sports,โ the National School Games aim not only to motivate students at the grassroots level but also to provide young athletes with a national platform to showcase their talents.
Beyond promoting an active lifestyle and sports participation, the event is expected to enhance exposure, foster solidarity among youth from across the country, and contribute to their holistic development.
