#Samtse: Continuing her school visits in Samtse, the Hon’ble Lyonpo visited Phensum Primary School (PS) and Tashithang PS on October 29. The following day, she attended the Gyalsung Passing Out Parade at the Jamtsholing Gyalsung Academy, an event graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. She later visited the Druk Hydro Energy Limited in Tendruk where she interacted with project staff.
On October 31, Lyonpo accompanied by a gup and villagers visited a farm road site in Ugyentse that had recently been damaged by a landslide. She then continued her visit to Norbugang PS. On November 1, she visited the Tabadramtoe PS in Samtse and the Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited (FCBL) in Phuentsholing.
During her interaction with teachers, Lyonpo highlighted the Ministry’s strategic focus on four key areas including professional development, curriculum, infrastructure and governance aimed at improving the overall quality of education and the school environment.
She spoke about the immersion program for teachers which will provide them with an opportunity to explore international best practices and enhance their professional competencies. She shared the Ministry’s milestone achievement of receiving the Cambridge alignment certificate. The new curriculum will be rolled out in 2026 and by 2027, students will be awarded a joint certificate from BCSEA and Cambridge.
Addressing further, Lyonpo shared plans to equip schools with improved facilities and spoke about the national teaching service, incentives and laptops for teachers, transfer guidelines, per-child costing model, cut-off points, ICT and admission emphasising their benefit to the education sector.
Various concerns related to staff quarters, boarding facilities, ICT, hostels, classroom shortages and WASH facilities were also raised and discussed. Following the meetings, Lyonpo toured the school campus to assess their facilities which are important in ensuring the holistic development of students.
At FCBL, Lyonpo visited the school feeding central warehouse and the rice fortification plant which plays a crucial role in delivering quality food supplies to schools. FCBL currently supplies a ration comprising seven items including fortified rice to 500 schools across the nation benefiting about 80,000 students.
Over the course of her Samtse tour from October 26 to November 2, Lyonpo visited 10 schools engaging closely with teachers and students. She assured the Ministry’s continued commitment to strengthening the education sector and creating an inclusive and conducive learning environment for every child.
