The Honโ€™ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development is visiting Samtse from October 26 to November 3, engaging closely with teachers and students and sharing the Ministryโ€™s vision for quality education. The tour also includes site visits to Yoeseltse and Ugyentse gewogs.

Lyonpo visited Phuntshopelri Primary School (PS), Gayshing Gaon PS and Khanduthang PS on October 27 followed by visits to Dipujora PS, Kyidsa PS and Nangladang PS on October 28.

During the visit, Lyonpo was briefed on the schoolโ€™s profile, achievements and innovative efforts being made to create an enriching learning environment.

Interacting with teachers, Lyonpo outlined the Ministryโ€™s strategic focus on four key thematic areas including professional development, curriculum, infrastructure and governance aimed at improving the overall quality of education and enhancing the school environment.

Emphasising professional development, Lyonpo spoke about the immersion program assuring that every teacher in the country will have the opportunity to explore international best practices and enhance their professional competencies.

She shared the Ministryโ€™s recent achievement of receiving the Cambridge alignment certificate, marking a major milestone for Bhutanโ€™s education sector. The new curriculum is set for implementation next year, and by 2027, students will be awarded a joint certificate from BCSEA and Cambridge.

Lyonpo further shared plans to equip schools with improved facilities, particularly focusing on transforming central schools into centers of excellence. In addition, she spoke about the national teaching service, incentives and laptops for teachers on a cost-sharing basis, transfer guidelines, per-child costing model, cut-off point, ICT and admission highlighting the benefits of these initiatives.

Concerns related to staff quarters, day meal, structures for multi-purpose hall, library, labs, kitchen, mess and storeroom; contract teachers and internet connectivity were also discussed.

Following the meetings, Lyonpo visited the schoolโ€™s facilities including classrooms where she interacted with students, the kitchen, toilets, the ICT room, the mess, the science laboratory and the library.

On October 26, Lyonpo visited the irrigation channel in Yoeseltse, which was recently damaged by a landslide.
