A team of four Class XII students is set to represent the country at the prestigious First Global Challenge 2025 to be held from October 29-November 2 in Panama City.
The team includes Chencho Namgyel Ghalley from Tenzin Academy, and Tenzin Lhaki, Kelden Tshering Namgyel and Kuenley Thujee Yangchen from Yangchenphug HSS who were chosen from among the top 100 students from the BCSE 2023 examination. They will be accompanied by two teachers, Karma Wangdi from Yangchenphug HSS and Deva Kumari Thapa from Motithang HSS whose guidance has played a crucial role in preparing the students for the global event.
Often referred to as the “Olympics of Robotics,” the challenge brings together young minds from over 190 countries to tackle real-world issues using science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This yearโs theme, ‘Eco Equilibrium,’ focuses on biodiversity and ecosystems, requiring participants to develop solutions that restore habitats, maintain ecological balance and protect vulnerable species.
Using a standard kit of parts, the team built the robot over the course of two months. The robot is tasked with navigating autonomously, picking up or placing objects, rotating wheels to release biodiversity balls, moving items to designated zones, detecting and avoiding barriers, and performing climbing challenges.
The event will serve as a platform for them to understand the international STEM standards, connect with peers from across the globe and build technical skills.
Yesterday, the team presented the final robot design to the Honโble Lyonpo and Dasho Secretary impressing them with their innovation, teamwork and passion for technology.
Bhutan has been participating in the FIRST Global Challenge since 2023, during which the national team secured 40th position out of 191 countries, inspiring young minds to explore STEM innovation on a global stage.
