𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

To strengthen values of respect, empathy, inclusion, care and autonomy, teachers from Trashigang and Mongar attended a three-day Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) integrated curriculum orientation workshop. The program aimed to build teachers’ capacity to effectively implement CSE in classrooms and enhance young people’s knowledge, skills, values and attitudes for informed and responsible life choices.

The program will equip young people with life skills-based sexuality education to make healthy and respectful choices, while deepening their understanding of sexual and reproductive health and rights within the Bhutanese context. It prepares youth to prevent gender-based violence, inequality, early pregnancy, HIV and STIs, fostering a fulfilling life. Through phased, age-appropriate lessons, the program promotes positive values of respect, equality, empathy and non-discrimination, counters misconceptions with evidence and a rights-based approach and empowers young people to make informed decisions and access essential SRH services.

The first cohort of the workshop was held from October 11-13 while the second cohort was held from October 17-19, both in Trashigang. The Health and Wellbeing Division under the Department of Education Programmes organised the program with technical and financial support from UNFPA in Bhutan.

The journey began in 2023 and to date, 371 teachers with at least one from every school have been oriented on the CSE integrated curriculum. The Ministry further launched one day CSE integrated curriculum orientation for the school leaders including principals and vice-principals and 27 school leaders of Trashiyangtse and 24 school leaders from Sarpang and Gelephu.
