The Ministry of Education and Skills Development held a recognition ceremony today to honour Ms. Chimi Dema, a teacher from Peljorling Higher Secondary School, Samtse, who was conferred the 6th Princess Maha Chakri Award 2025 by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand. The recognition ceremony was attended by the Honโble Minister, Dasho Secretary, heads of departments and senior colleagues from the Ministry, reflecting the high regard for this achievement.
The award ceremony took place in Bangkok, Thailand on 15th October 2025 where 14 outstanding teachers from ASEAN and neighbouring countries were recognised for their exemplary contributions to education. Ms. Chimiโs selection marks a historic milestone as Bhutanโs first recipient of this prestigious international award.
Ms. Chimi has distinguished herself through her innovative and student-centered approach to teaching. She has guided her students to write and publish their own books, helping them develop confidence as young authors while supporting their further education. An accomplished writer herself, she is the author of โDvija -Twice Born.โ Beyond her teaching responsibilities, Ms. Chimi also serves as a Desuup, reflecting her dedication to community and national service.
The Princess Maha Chakri Award (PMCA) was established in 2015 to commemorate the 60th birthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Presented biennially, the award recognises one outstanding teacher from each participating country. Bhutan, along with Bangladesh and Mongolia was invited to join the PMCA in 2023, making Ms. Chimi as the Bhutanโs first recipient.
The Ministry extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Chimi Dema for this well-deserved recognition and for representing Bhutanโs educators on the international stage.
