A high-level delegation from the École d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg (EHTL) arrived in Bhutan on 22 September 2025 for a week-long scoping mission with the Royal Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (RITH).

The mission, which runs until 29 September, is focused on strengthening collaboration in tourism and hospitality training in line with international standards.

The delegation is led by:

  • Claude Jentgen, Coordinator of Bi-lateral Development and Special Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development, H.E. Xavier Bettel, for Asia;
  • Michel Lanners, Director General of EHTL; and
  • Mia Aouadi, Coordinator of International Projects and Advisory Services at EHTL.

Since 24 September, the delegation has been attending meetings and engaging with senior officials, faculty, and stakeholders, including Her Excellency the Sherig Lyonpo, the Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, and the management of RITH. The programme also includes visits to relevant institutions and offices to explore opportunities for collaboration, review ongoing initiatives, and identify new pathways for capacity development and management of RITH operations.

The collaboration forms part of Bhutan’s TVET Reform Plan, endorsed by the Royal Government in 2021, which seeks to make Technical and Vocational Education and Training an attractive career pathway for Bhutanese youth. By partnering with world-class institutions such as EHTL, Bhutan aims to enhance the quality of tourism and hospitality skills training and expand international linkages.

The Ministry of Education and Skills Development is hosting the mission and providing logistical support during the delegation’s stay in Bhutan.
