Students at the Nichula Primary School organised a Learning Fair to welcome the Honโ€™ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development on September 2.

The fair, a model making competition brought together all 49 students from classes PP to V students showcasing their creativity, teamwork and innovation. It focused on themes such as water, community and the recreational center. Students presented innovative models focusing on sustainable water storage, the importance of community engagement and ideas for recreational spaces in rural settings.

The school organises such exhibition annually to offer hands-on learning opportunities, develop various skills and instill confidence in students as they engage in new and meaningful activities.

Despite being located in the remote area under Nichula gewog, Lhamoizingkha Dungkhag in Dagana with no road connection and motorable bridge, the school ensures the wholistic development of its students through a variety of learning activities including football, carnival games, cultural dance competitions, well-being program and literary contests.

Established in 2009 as an extended classroom, the school was upgraded to a primary school in 2022. It currently has six teachers and two support staff.

Students attending the school come from five chiwogs including Gangtokha, Damzeykaysa, Yerpheling, Dangreybhu and Damchuna with some walking up to 1.5 hours through rugged terrain and crossing a suspension bridge over the Sunkosh River to reach the school.

Despite the challenges including lack of road access, limited housing for staff and healthcare services, the school remains committed to providing quality education to students, continuing to serve as the sole center for formal education in the gewog.
