Parents in Gozhi gewog, Dagana now have a reason to celebrate as the community welcomed its first Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) center at Balleygang on August 27. This development marks a major milestone for the community which long faced challenges due to the lack of early learning services.
The new facility aims to provide foundational learning opportunities for children aged between 3 and 5 before they enter formal schooling. It will benefit children from Balleygang village and Dagachu Hydropower staff colonies.
According to the principal of Balleygang Primary School, the center has enrolled 24 children. He added that the enrollment is expected to be increased by next year.
Funded by the GPE-P4R, the center was launched by the Honโble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development. It will begin operating from September 1.
The initiative is part of the Ministryโs ongoing efforts to expand early childhood education nationwide under the 13th five-year plan.
The Ministry is committed to establishing an ECCD center in every chiwog that meets basic requirements. In places where a physical center is not feasible, the Ministry will implement home-based ECCD services with equivalent resources ensuring that every child in Bhutan has access to early learning opportunities, regardless of their location.
