The Honโ€™ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development concluded her Dagana Dzongkhag tour on September 3. As part of the Ministryโ€™s efforts to strengthen the education sector, she engaged in meaningful dialogues with students and teachers covering a total of 25 schools including extended classroom (ECR) and Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) centers across the Dzongkhag.

Lyonpo began her visit on August 26 at Daga Central School, followed by visits to Daga Primary School (PS) and Samey PS. On August 27, she continued her journey to Lhaling PS, Daleythang Lower Secondary School (LSS) and Balleygang PS.

On August 28, Lyonpo visited Tashiding LSS, Gangzor PS and Dagapela Middle Secondary School, followed by visits to Nimtola PS and Namchalla PS on August 29. She toured Phekoma PS, Drukjeygang CS, Pangserpo PS and Pangna PS on August 30. Phuensumgang PS, Tsangkha MSS and Zinchella PS were visited on August 31 while visits to Gesarling CS and Karmaling PS were made on September 1. She toured Lhamoizingkha Higher Secondary School, Nichula PS, Devitar ECR, Devitar ECCD and Lhamoizingkha ECCD on September 2.

The meeting at schools began with a presentation highlighting the schoolโ€™s profile, academic performance and innovative practices being made to create an enriching learning environment.

Interacting with students, Lyonpo underscored the importance of moral values, discipline and mental well-being. She urged them not to hesitate in seeking help during challenges or asking questions. Alongside academic success, she stressed the need for students to build emotional strength and healthy habits.

She introduced students to the potential opportunities offered through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) particularly with the upcoming Gelephu Mindfulness City. She encouraged them to consider TVET not just as a training option but as a promising and rewarding lifelong career pathway.

Addressing the teachers, Lyonpo outlined the Ministryโ€™s four strategic priorities including infrastructure, professional development, curriculum and governance aimed at fostering an efficient and inclusive education system.

She shared the Ministryโ€™s plan to merge smaller schools and develop central schools into centers of excellence. Considering concerns from parents about sending children to boarding schools, she urged teachers to help them understand the long-term benefits of such initiatives which offer improved learning environments and better access to resources.

Lyonpo updated teachers on the new national curriculum aligned with the internationally recognised Cambridge framework which is set to roll out in 2026. She highlighted the immersion program which aims to enhance professional skills and global competence. โ€œAll teachers will have access to such transformative training under the 13th Five-Year Plan,โ€ she added.

She further spoke on various Ministryโ€™s initiatives including the national teaching service, incentives, increased stipend, per-child costing model, IWP, contract teachers, transfer and admission highlighting their flexibility and practical benefits. Issues and concerns related to the Ministry were also addressed.

Following the meetings, Lyonpo visited the schoolโ€™s facilities such as classrooms, the ICT room, staffrooms, science laboratory, hostels, WASH facilities, library and kitchen. During the campus visit, she emphasised the importance of maintaining these resources, particularly science labs, library and WASH facilities as they are integral to studentsโ€™ holistic development. In addition, she expressed concern for the well-being of young children in boarding facilities and urged management to ensure they receive proper care and support.

The tour served as a valuable opportunity for Lyonpo to connect with students and teachers while gaining firsthand insight into the strengths and challenges of schools. She acknowledged the dedication of teachers in nurturing Bhutanโ€™s future and reaffirmed the Ministryโ€™s commitment to building a more resilient and future-ready education system.

During the visit, Lyonpo was accompanied by the Dzongkhag Education Officer and gups. Dasho Dzongdag, Drungpa and representatives from the Royal Bhutan Police also joined to visit some of the schools.
