The Honโble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development is currently on a tour of Dagana Dzongkhag visiting schools and engaging with teachers and students as part of the Ministryโs efforts to enhance the education sector while also motivating the school community.
Lyonpo began her visit on August 26 at Daga Central School, followed by visits to Daga Primary School (PS) and Samey PS. On August 27, she continued her journey to Lhaling PS, Daleythang Lower Secondary School and Balleygang PS.
At each school, the meeting began with a presentation highlighting the schoolโs profile, achievements and innovative efforts being made to create an enriching learning environment.
Addressing the students, Lyonpo emphasised the importance of maintaining self-discipline and strong moral values. She encouraged them to avoid unhealthy habits and focus on academic success alongside personal well-being. She further highlighted mental health and the valuable lifelong learning opportunities available through Technical and Vocational Education and Training. She urged them to explore various sustainable pathways being offered by the Ministry.
During interaction with teachers, Lyonpo outlined the Ministryโs strategic focus on four key thematic areas including infrastructure, professional development, curriculum and governance aimed at improving both the quality of education and the school environment.
Lyonpo highlighted that schools across the country will be equipped with better facilities including the Ministryโs plan to develop central schools into centers of excellence. She also provided updates on the alignment of the national curriculum with the internationally recognised Cambridge curriculum set to roll out in 2026. She added that all teachers will receive training to ensure a smooth and effective transition to the new curriculum.
Highlighting the immersion program, Lyonpo said it is designed to expose our teachers to international best practices to enhance their professional skills and competence. She added that many teachers have already benefited from the initiative and assured that every teacher in the country will be given opportunities for such transformative training. She further spoke on the national teaching service, incentives and per-child costing model highlighting the benefits of these initiatives. Concerns related to IWP, contract teachers, transfer, admission and infrastructure were also addressed.
Lyonpo explained that all these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to foster an efficient and inclusive education system.
Following the meetings, Lyonpo visited the schoolโs key facilities including classrooms where she interacted with students, the ICT room, staffrooms, science laboratory, library, kitchen and the ECCD center. She emphasised the importance of proper maintenance, particularly the science laboratory and library as these facilities play a crucial role in the holistic development of students. She commended the school administration for their efforts in keeping the facilities well-maintained and student-friendly.
