he “Project to Advance Scientific and Environmental Education for Sustainable and Resilient Societies” (IP2 Project) was launched on August 23 at the Lampelri Recreational Park. Organised by Green Bhutan Corporation Limited (GBCL), the event was graced by the Honโ€™ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development, whose presence underscored the national importance of advancing environmental education.

The launch was also attended by representatives from UNESCOโ€™s Regional Office for South Asia, Toepisa Gup and students and teachers from Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School, Punakha Central School and Dechentsemo Central School alongside invited guests.

A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of four impactful educational videos on climate change including Climate Change Awareness, Lampelriโ€™s Biodiversity, Community Action and The Bhutan Green Quiz. These videos are designed to transform Lampelri Recreational Park into a living laboratory for experiential learning, connecting learners with nature and sustainability in an engaging, immersive way.

In her keynote address, Lyonpo emphasised that the videos are more than just educational content; they are a call to action. She stated, โ€œThese videos carry a vital message: to ignite a movement that equips every learner in Bhutan with the knowledge, values and skills necessary to protect our fragile and precious environment. These videos are not meant merely to be watched; they are to be used, shared, discussed and acted upon.โ€

She added that โ€œEducation is the most powerful tool for climate mitigation.โ€ She encouraged educators to integrate environmental learning into daily teaching practices. She urged students to become ambassadors of environmental awareness and called on stakeholders to scale up the initiative to reach more communities.

Ms. Joyce Poan, the Chief of Education at UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia described the videos as โ€œMore than tools, they are catalysts for dialogue, learning, and meaningful action.โ€

As a part of the launch, a panel discussion was also held on the ‘Importance of Environmental Education in Lampelri Recreational Parkโ€™ bringing together a conservationist, a forestry officer, a gup and teachers. The panelists emphasised the importance of fostering stronger environmental responsibility among young people and the wider community.

To ensure broad access, the videos will be made available free on Samuh, a leading Bhutanese OTT platform and the Sherig Bhutan. This digital availability ensures that students, teachers and families across the country, even those unable to visit the park can access the content, deepen their understanding and contribute to a nationwide movement for environmental stewardship.

Visitors are invited to the Lampelri Recreational Park to explore its natural beauty and engage with its innovative educational programs. The park offers a unique opportunity to understand the impacts of climate change and learn about Bhutanโ€™s proactive efforts to build a sustainable and resilient future.
