Ms. Joce Poan, the Chief of Education and Mr. Abhinav Kumar, the Programme Coordinator from the UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia in New Delhi paid a courtesy call on to the Honโble Education and Skills Development Lyonpo yesterday, reaffirming a strong collaboration between UNESCO and the Royal Government of Bhutan.
The discussion focused on advancing equitable, inclusive and quality education through key initiatives:
- Development of iSherig-3: Exploring UNESCOโs technical support in the development of iSherig3
- Climate Change Education: Strengthening integration of climate literacy and sustainability into school curricula and teacher training.
- BPST: Technical support to review the assessment of teachers as per the BPST.
- School Health and Wellness: Enhancing school-based health programs in the field of Comprehensive Sexuality Education and Social Emotional Learning,
- TVET: Exploring UNESCOโs role in supporting Bhutanโs skill development agenda and alignment with future labor market needs.
Lyonpo welcomed UNESCOโs continued support and emphasised Bhutanโs commitment to learner-centered, sustainable and values-driven education. The UNESCO team reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Bhutanโs national education priorities and will engage with department heads and officials during their mission.
The visit coincides with the upcoming official launch of the “Project to Advance Scientific and Environmental Education for Sustainable and Resilient Societies” (IP2 Project) from August 20-24.
A key highlight will be the launch of climate change education videos at the Lamperi Recreational Park on August 23. These interactive, locally rooted videos aim to inspire students and communities toward climate action through science and storytelling.
