On July 30, the Honโ€™ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development visited the Jigme Wangchuck Power Training Institute in Sarpang and met with Gyalsups participating in the skilling program.

Addressing the Gyalsups, Lyonpo highlighted the Ministryโ€™s commitment to strengthening the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector through diverse strategies and pathways. She emphasised the growing importance of TVET in providing lifelong, livelihood-oriented skills and underscored its crucial role in national development, particularly with the upcoming Gelephu Mindfulness City.

Lyonpo encouraged the Gyalsups to view TVET not just as a training opportunity but as a viable and rewarding career pathway. She addressed general concerns regarding TVET graduates and shared that the Ministry is working to broaden access to skill development programs and establish sustainable pathways for their long-term growth.

The institutes currently host 490 Gyalsups including 320 male and 170 female enrolled in the Gyalsung Skilling Program which was launched on June 10. The initiative aims to build personal growth, professional competence and readiness for national service.

Gyalsups are undergoing training in 15 courses including building wiring, solar technology, plumbing, construction carpentry, transmission and distribution lineman, mechanical fitter, welding, mobile robotics, digital printing, masonry, wood carving, painting, embroidery, sculpting and bronze and silver casting. The course duration ranges from six to twenty months.

The Gyalsung Skilling Program stands as a transformative opportunity for Bhutanese youth equipping them with the skills and character needed to contribute meaningfully to the nation and to succeed in a rapidly evolving economy.

Lyonpo is on an official tour from July 26 to August 1 during which she also inaugurated the countryโ€™s first specialised school in Trashigang and visited the College of Zorig Chusum and Khamdang Lower Secondary School in Trashiyangtse.
