The Ministry of Education and Skills Development yesterday signed a Contractor Performance Commitment for the Development of Central Schools under Phase I with three construction firms, marking a significant milestone in the Ministry’s efforts to enhance quality educational infrastructure. 

The commitment, which focuses on maintaining quality construction and ensuring timely completion covers both the design and build modality of new school structures and the renovation of existing facilities. The works are scheduled to be completed between 2026 and 2027. 

In its first phase, the initiative will cover 37 schools comprising 20 central schools and 17 cluster schools in 20 Dzongkhags. The Ministry will implement the project with technical assistance from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MoIT) and funding support from the Government of India Project Tied Assistance (GoI-PTA) as part of Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan.

The program was graced by the Hon’ble Lyonpo accompanied by the Dasho Secretary and the Director of the Department of School Education from the Ministry. Also present were the Director General of the Department of Infrastructure Development, MoIT and his technical team along with representatives from the construction firms.

The three construction firms have been awarded the works for Samtengang Central School and Samtengang Primary School in Wangduephodrang, Yoeseltse Higher Secondary School and Ugyentse Primary School in Samtse, Chhukha Central School and Tsimalakha Middle Secondary School in Chhukha, Shari Higher Secondary School and Gaupel Lower Secondary School in Paro and Tangmachu Central School and Tamangchu Primary School in Lhuentse.
