On May 18, the Hon’ble Lyonpo as a Cabinet Focal Minister met with a team in Gelephu including Dasho Dzongrab of Sarpang, sector heads, Gelephu Thromde officials and the gups. The meeting focused on reviewing the Dzongkhag’s financial progress for 2024-2025 and the proposed allocation for 2025-2026 financial year.

During the session, Lyonpo took the opportunity to share the Ministry’s recent policy interventions such as enhancing school feeding programs, aligning the national curriculum with Cambridge international standards, nationwide digitisation efforts, enhancing internet access, addressing teacher shortages and revising school policies such as cut-off points, PP admission age and consolidations. She emphasised that these reforms aim to ensure optimal resource utilisation and deliver quality education across the country.

Lyonpo further highlighted the government’s initiatives to promote Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) pathways. She encouraged the floor to visit TVET institutes and raise awareness in their communities about the growing opportunities in vocational fields. “Understanding the value of vocational skills is vital for empowering youth and strengthening the national economic resilience, particularly with the upcoming Gelephu Mindfulness City,” she added.

Addressing the concerns raised and applauding their contributions, Lyonpo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive development across the region.

En route to Thimphu yesterday, Lyonpo visited the Jigme Wangchuck Power Training Institute in Sarpang to oversee the facilities ahead of the technical training program set to begin in June for Gyalsung graduates. The program will offer training in approximately 15 trades providing Gyalsungs with essential skills for meaningful employment and contributing to the nation’s skilled workforce.
