En route to Gelephu, the Hon’ble Lyonpo visited Sonamgang Primary School (PS) and Phuentsholing PS under Phuentsholing Thromde yesterday, engaging with teachers and visiting key facilities.
During her interaction with the teachers, Lyonpo highlighted the Ministry’s major initiatives aimed at improving both the quality of education and the working environment for educators. These initiatives include curriculum alignment efforts, the teacher immersion programme, school consolidation and the National Teaching Service.
She also spoke about concerns related to teacher transfers and shortages, school feeding programs and the specific challenges faced by remote schools compared to those in rural areas. Emphasising the significance of nurturing classroom environments and the influential role of teachers, she encouraged them to serve as role models in both their personal lives and professional duties.
At Sonamgang PS, Lyonpo particularly visited Special Educational Needs (SEN) facilities which currently serve 30 students including 17 boys and 13 girls from Pre-Primary to Class VI. She commended the school’s commitment to inclusive education and its efforts to ensure that every child receives the academic and emotional support they need to succeed.
Lyonpo toured the school’s WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) facilities at Phuentsholing PS and emphasised their crucial role in fostering a safe and healthy learning environment.
In addition, Lyonpo visited a site at Sonamgang PS premises where renovation work is underway to temporarily accommodate class VII and VIII students from Rigsar Higher Secondary School. The arrangement is part of a transitional plan until the construction of Rigsar’s integrated school building is completed.
