Launch of the Specialized and Compulsory Scouting Program for Classes V, VII and IX: Celebrating 25 Years of Scouting in Bhutan.

Changlimithang, Thimphu, Bhutan – Marking the 25th Anniversary of Scouting in Bhutan, coinciding with the 45th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty The King and the 11th National Scout’s Day, the Ministry of Education and Skills Development announced the launch of the Specialized and Compulsory Scouting Program for classes V, VII, and IX with objective to enhance the quality of Scouting program and prepare young people for Gyalsung National Service. This initiative signifies a pivotal milestone in Bhutan’s ongoing commitment to youth development, grounded in the core values of Scouting.

Since its formal establishment in 1996 and Bhutan’s full-fledged membership in the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in 1999, Scouting has been instrumental in fostering character-building, discipline, and leadership among youth. A landmark Royal Command in 2013 revitalized the Scouting program, leading to extraordinary growth. Today, 92% of school going children (140,123 members) actively participate in Scouting activities across Bhutan.

In recognition of this progress, the Bhutan Scouts Association was awarded the Highest Current Market Share Growth Award at the 43rd World Scout Conference held in Egypt in August 2024.

The Bhutan Scouts Association extends its deepest gratitude to all those whose unwavering dedication has contributed to the success and growth of Scouting over the years. As we celebrate this milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to shaping responsible, skilled, and service-oriented youth who will drive Bhutan’s future forward. For more information on the Specialized and Compulsory Scouting Program, please visit us at [https://education.gov.bt/pages/bhutan-scouts/].
