First-ever Junior Cricket Tournament concludes in Thimphu
A total of one hundred and eight students took part in the country’s first-ever Junior Cricket Tournament held in Thimphu showcasing their skills in the under-10 and under-15 boys and girls categories. It was held to promote cricket among young enthusiasts and keep them engaged during the summer break.
The tournament which began on July 2 concluded yesterday with awarding of trophies and certificates to the winners and runners-up in the esteemed presence of the Hon’ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development. Teams Sonic Boomers, CAE Leopards, Mighty Mermaids emerged as the winners in the under-10 and under-15 boys and girls categories respectively.
Participants were selected based on their potential and basic cricketing skills. They came from various schools across the country representing Gelephu, Punakha, Wangdue, Paro and Thimphu. A six-year-old, Evaan Adhikari from Thimphu Primary School was the youngest player in the tournament.
A total of 32 matches were played during the tournament. It was organized by Cricket Academy for Excellence, the country’s first cricket academy established in July 2023. According to the organizer, the event will be an annual feature providing a valuable learning platform for young cricket enthusiasts.
