Thirty-six youths including 15 boys and 21 girls are attending a five-day National Training of Trainers (NToT) workshop on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in Thimphu. They are members of Y-PEER Bhutan, a network of youth peer educators of SRHR instituted by Programme and Youth Coordination Division of the Department of Education Programmes. It was initiated in 2012 as a part of the global network to promote SRHR among young people through peer-to-peer approach. It is based in RUB colleges and Technical Training Institutes.
With trained youth peer educators graduating from their colleges/institutes every year, the division conducts NToT workshops for a new cohort of youth peer educators annually to ensure sustainability of Y-PEER programmes and services in the colleges/institutes.
Upon the completion of the training, participants will be taking up leadership roles within their networks and will be responsible for planning and implementing various Y-PEER activities in their colleges/institutes. The training facilitated by senior Y-PEER members and the division officials with support from UNFPA Bhutan will conclude on July 7.
