A total of 145 dedicated counsellors comprising 63 females and 82 males along with officials from the Career Education and Counselling Division (CECD) of the Department of Education Programmes (DEP) participated in a transformative five-day Burnout Mitigation and Wellbeing Programme held in Gelephu Mindfulness City from March 11 to 15.
Organized by the CECD in collaboration with the Health and Wellbeing Division of DEP, the initiative aimed to address the burnout, secondary trauma and stress experienced by counsellors actively engaged with diverse clients and programs within schools of Bhutan. The programme focused on fostering holistic wellbeing through the exploration of mindfulness, community, self- curiosity and contentment.
This comprehensive program highlighted the commitment of Bhutan’s educational system to prioritize the mental health and resilience of its counsellors, recognizing their pivotal role in supporting the holistic development of students. By equipping them with valuable tools and strategies to navigate the inherent challenges of their roles, the initiative will not only enhance the counsellors’ capacity to serve effectively but also contribute to fostering a nurturing and supportive atmosphere within educational institutions.
Following the programme, the counsellors feel motivated by the newfound insights and skills as they return to their respective roles. The Ministry looks forward to creating a positive impact on the mental health and wellbeing across schools in Bhutan.
