Winter Youth Engagement and Empowerment Programme being rolled out through Youth Centres
A total of 163 youth including 70 boys and 93 girls aged between 13-18 years are attending the 10-day Winter Youth Engagement and Empowerment Programme at four Youth Centres: Thimphu, Khuruthang, Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar.
Coordinated by the Programme and Youth Coordination Division of the Department of Education Programme, the programme is designed not only to positively engage youth during their winter vacation but also to empower them by equipping them with appropriate knowledge and skills that could help them lead a healthy and meaningful life. Since young people are found to be more vulnerable to negative influences during long vacations, such programmes are necessary to keep them engaged. The programme includes sessions on resilience building, sexual reproductive health and rights, digital literacy and personality development. It is being facilitated by the school counsellors, senior youth resource persons and Youth Centre staff. The programme started on January 15 and will conclude on January 26.
