A total of 35 youth including 15 boys and 20 girls are attending the 20th National Training of Trainers (NToT) workshop for Y-PEER members which kick started on January 3. Senior Y-PEER members are facilitating this 5-day training scheduled to conclude on January 7.
The training is designed to make youth participants more professional peer educators. They will gain insights into various Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) issues acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to address them effectively. Additionally, the training covers topics such as volunteerism, civic engagement, leadership and other relevant skills.
Upon the completion of the training, these trainees would return to their respective networks and assume leadership roles in planning and executing various Y-PEER activities in the field. This training would also help them collaborate and work with other youth-led groups more professionally.
The event is organized by the Programme and Youth Coordination Division of the Department of Education Programmes with support from UNICEF. Y-PEER is a youth-led group under the Young Bhutan Network (YBN) that specializes in the promotion of SRHR among young people through a peer-to-peer approach. Established in 2016, YBN facilitates coordination and networking among various youth-led groups in Bhutan with Y-PEER being one of them. Today, there are 15 Y-PEER networks based in RUB colleges and technical training institutes.
