A total of 294 youths including 206 boys and 88 girls attended a three-day chess coaching and tournament which started on December 19 and concluded today. It was organized by Bhutan Chess Federation and the Programme and Youth Coordination Division of the Department of Education Programmes at 9 Youth Centres and 4 Youth Friendly Integrated Service Centres.
The program was aimed to promote professional chess among children and youth by equipping them with technical knowledge and skills that could help them become national chess players in the future. It was facilitated by the School Sports Instructors with technical support from Bhutan Chess Federation. The local tournament was held today and the winner each from the male and female categories has been selected to take part in the Youth Centre Championship which is scheduled to be held in Thimphu on 29 December 2023. The program is being supported by UNICEF Bhutan.
