Empowering CLC instructors through Bakery trainingChencho Lham, a dedicated Community Learning Center (CLC) instructor completed a bakery training which was held from September 21-30 at the NLD Training Institute in Thimphu. This was the first time such an opportunity had come to her and she couldn’t be more thrilled. It not only allowed her to enhance her personal skills but also provided her with valuable knowledge to benefit her 22 students back at her centre located at Katsho in Haa. Joining her were ten other CLC instructors from across the country, all eager to absorb every ounce of wisdom the trainers had to offer. Over the course of the ten-day training, they were immersed in a world of flour, sugar and creativity. Guided by experienced trainers, Chencho and her fellow participants explored the secrets of baking, mastering techniques that ranged from creating a wide array of cakes to perfecting the art of pizza making. They also acquired the skills to bake delicate Swiss rolls, crispy banana sticks, fluffy bread, buttery croissants and savory patties, among other delicious treats. According to Sangy Dorji, the lone male participant from Gyalposhing CLC, the training enabled the team to bake around 34 items and provided them with a deep understanding of the science behind baking. He is now prepared to make a meaningful impact by sharing his newfound skills with those interested in his village. The primary goal of the training was to empower instructors like Chencho and Sangay to not only excel in the art of baking but also to develop the capacity for transformation and share this invaluable skill with their communities. They acquired not only the competence but also the confidence and knowledge required to teach others. Equipped with these tools, they are now prepared to uplift their communities by offering a new livelihood opportunity and spreading the joy of baking. The training concluded with the awarding of certificates to the participants. It was organized by the Programme and Youth Coordination Division of the Department of Education Programmes and Bhutan National Commission for U N E S C O with financial support from the 유네스코한국위원회 – KNCU under the 2023 Bridge Bhutan Project, a five-year project aimed at enhancing adult literacy and skills development programs in Bhutan.
