Twenty-eight girls from six schools and one Youth Centre are attending a four-day digital literacy hackathon which began yesterday at Gelephu Youth Friendly Integrated Service Centre. With a theme, ‘Techathon: Empowering Girls through Technology’, the programme is aimed at equipping girls with knowledge and skills to help them identify problems in their communities and explore ways to address them through technology.
During the programme, participants will be introduced to different aspects of digital literacy and technological innovations that will inspire them and build their capacity to become social innovators. There will also be mentorship sessions that will help them refine and finalize their ideas.
On the final day, participants will have the opportunity to present their ideas and the winning teams will receive nominal funds to implement their projects.
The hackathon is being organized by the Programme and Youth Coordination Division of the Department of Education Programmes in collaboration with GovTech Agency and UNICEF Bhutan.
