Advanced tailoring training for CLC instructors concludes in ThimphuAround 27 community learning center instructors from 20 Dzongkhags attended a 10-day advanced training on tailoring. The training which commenced on September 10 in Thimphu, concluded on September 19 with awarding of certificates to the participants. It was designed to build the capacity of the instructors to scale up tailoring training for the learners in their respective communities. During the training, participants were introduced to designing and stitching western-style garments complementing their knowledge of stitching Bhutanese dresses. This was in line with the effort to diversify tailoring programmes in the CLCs to ensure their long-term sustainability. Moreover, these skills would go a long way in creating a domestic market for designing and stitching official uniforms and other casual dresses, thereby contributing towards boosting the local economy. Tenzin Wangmo, one of the participants from Pemagatshel shared that the training provided an excellent opportunity to acquire new skills which was a bit challenging compared to stitching the Bhutanese dresses. Despite this, she is looking forward to passing on her newfound knowledge to the ten learners at her center. The Programme and Youth Coordination Division of the Department of Education Programmes and Bhutan National Commission for U N E S C O coordinated the training with financial support from the 유네스코한국위원회 – KNCU under 2023 Bridge Bhutan Project.
