A total of 27 Y-PEER members, 3 each from 9 networks attended the two-day workshop themed ‘ICPD Dash: Race to Three Zeroes to engage Y-PEER members in achieving the ICPD agenda: Zero Unmet Needs for Family Planning and Zero Tolerance to Gender-based Violence.
ICPD (International Conference on Population and Development) was first held in Cairo, Egypt in 1994 and reviewed in Nairu, Kenya in 2019. Since gender-based violence and unmet needs for family planning are still seen as key global issues today, the Y-PEER Networks will be supported to contribute towards addressing those issues in a small way.
Participants were introduced to different aspects of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in order to enhance their understanding of SRHR issues and build their capacity to contribute more.
On August 18, the participants presented their project proposals and the four best have been selected for a small implementation grant.
The Programme and Youth Coordination Division of the Department of Education Programmes organised the workshop in collaboration with UNFPA Bhutan.
Y-PEER is a network of youth peer educators specialized in the promotion of SRHR among youth through the peer-to-peer approach. It was initiated as a youth-led group under the Programme and Youth Coordination Division in 2012 to promote SRHR among youth.
