Sherig e-Counselling and Consultation Services goes online
The Ministry launched the e-Counselling and Consultation Services, a user-friendly online platform designed to provide accessible and convenient mental health support and guidance to individuals who are navigating life’s challenges.
With the launch, individuals can now access professional counselling and consultation services for various disciplines from anywhere by simply filling out a form without having to visit in person.
The services are provided by school guidance counselors who are trained, certified and licensed by the Bhutan Board for Certified Counselors. There are currently 160 counsellors in the country. Individuals from various backgrounds such as students, parents, teachers, civil servants and others can request and receive support.
Supporting someone with mental illness can be crucial in their recovery. Offering practical assistance, listening without judgment, being patient and providing emotional support are all valuable ways to help someone going through mental health challenges. In addition to seeking professional help, there are various steps individuals can take to cope with mental health problems such as engaging in regular exercise, maintaining a healthy diet, avoiding drugs and alcohol and cultivating a positive mindset.
Over the years, the Ministry has been proactive in implementing various preventive programs including skills development, physical activities, winter programs, leaderships training and counselling programs for youths to engage them meaningfully and reduce mental health issues as well as deter them from involving in the crime activities. Such programs play a vital role in promoting mental well-being and supporting young people in their development.
The platform developed with support from The Pema will be managed by the Ministry’s Career Education and Counselling Division under the Department of Education Pogrammes.
