The overall aims and objectives of the Division are:
i. To facilitate equitable and quality access to guidance and counselling support in all secondary schools
ii. To promote and integrate Psychological and mental well-being principles and practices through all daily school activities
iii. To engage with members of the school community (parents, students, administrators, teachers, student services personnel and support staff) to improve students educational experience
iv. To promote and enhance learning by providing students with knowledge skills, attitudes and behaviours appropriate for their developmental level
v. To design and develop Intervention programs and activities that will support students to develop academic/career and Personal/Social skills, behaviour and attitudes
vi. To implement, support and supervise School Counselling Programs and activities in all secondary schools in Bhutan
viii. Design, develop and implement need-based Professional Development Trainings and Programs in areas of Guidance and Counselling, Parenting Education, Youth and Adolescent Development
Programs and Services
Counselling Services : The provision for Counselling services is available to anyone who requests for it. It includes students, Parents, Teachers, Civil servants and individuals who are referred by nearby schools, hosipitals and other agencies.
The Counsellors at the division are trained in the following areas and can make assessments and provide brief interventions and support.
1. Counseling for Children, Adolescents, and/or At-Risk Youth
2. Addictions Counselling
3. Academic and Career Counselling
4. Crisis Counselling Support
Consultation and Supervision:The Division facilitates and provides periodic consultation and supervision to all the School Guidance Counsellors in Bhutan to ensure standard practices are followed and timely intervention are provided to those in need of guidance and support.
School Counselling Data and Analysis:The Division periodically collects Counselling data for analysis and reporting purposes. The data gathered helps inform the common Child and Adoloscent issues and trends that informs a deeper understanding of the nature of interventions and programs that are to be developed and implemented further.
Trainings and Program Development:The Division is also involved in research and development of Trainings and Intervention Activities for School Guidance Counsellors, teachers, students and Parents. Some of the key focus areas are in respect of:
