Doongna gewog gets its first Middle Secondary School
Dungna Lower Secondary School (LSS) in Doongna gewog, Chukha has been upgraded to Middle Secondary School (MSS), the first MSS in the gewog. Established in 1965, the school is one of the remotest and oldest schools in Chukha and was upgraded to LSS in 2008.
In the past, students had to be relocated to Chapcha MSS, Chukha Central School (CS) and Kamji CS to continue their grades 9 and 10 making travelling a huge challenge. With the MSS inauguration in gewog, students and parents will no longer have to worry about the inconveniences they usually face. Additionally, it will relieve parents by reducing the financial implications who mainly rely on agriculture farming for their livelihoods. “The school upgradation is a boon for us and we are happy about it,” shared one of the parents.
The school will benefit students from five gewogs including Doongna, Maedtabkha, Loggchina, Geling and Phuentshogling.
Located on an area of 15 acres, the school has 370 students including 165 boys and 205 girls with 21 teachers. More than 100 students from nearby schools are expected to get enrolled in 2023. The management has proposed additional teaching staff for the school to ensure quality education.
A budget of Nu.50 M was funded by the Small Development Project, Government of India for additional MSS facilities including a multi-purpose hall and classrooms.
The Hon’ble Lyonpo for the Ministry of Education and Skills Development inaugurated the Dungna MSS on 20 January 23.
