Tshering Dorji receives the first Trongsa Penlop PhD Scholarship
Tshering Dorji, a faculty member from Samtse College of Education is set to embark on a journey to pursue his PhD studies at Murdoch University in Australia. He has earned the honour of being the first recipient of the prestigious Trongsa Penlop PhD Scholarship offered by the University.
Tshering Dorji was selected from a competitive pool of 70 candidates following two rigorous rounds of interviews. His selection is a testament to his exceptional academic and research potential.
The scholarship awarding ceremony took place on July 6 in Thimphu graced by the Hon’ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development, executives from Murdoch University and other invited guests. The event underscored the valuable partnership between Murdoch University and Bhutan while also celebrating the achievements of the scholarship recipient.
During the ceremony, Lyonpo acknowledged Murdoch University for their crucial support in nurturing Bhutanese talent. She emphasized the importance of such opportunities in enhancing the academic and research capabilities of Bhutanese scholars.
The Trongsa Penlop PhD Scholarship is offered in recognition of the growing partnership between Murdoch University and the Kingdom of Bhutan. It aims to support a Bhutanese scholar of exceptional research promise in undertaking a PhD project that is relevant to Bhutan, aligns with the priorities of the Indo-Pacific Research Centre (IPRC) and fits within the disciplines of the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) at Murdoch University. The IPRC is dedicated to addressing the political, socio-cultural and environmental challenges faced by countries in the region.
