National Skills Competition Champions TVET Pathways
The National Skills Competition 2024 in Sarpang marked a significant milestone in promoting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as viable career paths while also serving as a preparatory ground for winners to participate in prestigious competitions like WorldSkills Asia which attracts top participants from across Asia.
The event held from April 19-21 saw 47 enthusiastic participants including 39 males and 8 who showcased their innovations and skills in diverse fields such as Welding, Furniture Making, Bricklaying, Baking, Digital Web Technology, Patra, Lhadri and Troezo.
Coinciding with National Zorig Day, the award ceremony graced by the Hon’ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development recognized outstanding achievers. Each category’s winners received cash prizes of Nu.100,000 for the first position (Gold), Nu.70,000 for the second position (Silver) and Nu.50,000 for the third position (Bronze). Additionally, first-place winners
received a complimentary student care policy from Bhutan Insurance Limited.
In her address, Lyonpo underscored the crucial role of skills development in shaping a competent workforce, driving economic prosperity and fostering opportunities for entrepreneurship and sustainable employment. She emphasized the significance of such platforms in providing young Bhutanese with valuable experience and preparing them for global competitions.
Hosted by the Jigme Wangchuck Power Training Institute in Sarpang under the theme “Empowering Skills, Building Futures, Fueling Nation Building,” the event not only encouraged young individuals to embrace vocational training but also provided a platform for technical training institutes to showcase their innovations and services.
