Hon’ble Lyonpo engages with Students and Teachers in Samtse
The Hon’ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development embarked on a comprehensive tour across several schools in Samtse marking a proactive step towards fostering dialogue and addressing key challenges.
The schools visited included Peljorling Higher Secondary School, Tashicholing Primary School, Sherubgatshel Middle Secondary School and Tendruk Higher Secondary School on April 9, Sang-Ngag Chhoeling Lower Secondary School, Yoeseltse Higher Secondary School and Norbugang Central School on April 10 and Dorokha Higher Secondary School and Tashithang Middle Secondary School on April 11.
Addressing the students during these visits, Lyonpo covered a diverse range of crucial topics including self-discipline, commitment, school dropouts, teenage pregnancy, mental health, substance abuse and leadership qualities.
Expressing deep concern about increasing school dropout rates and mental health issues, Lyonpo encouraged students to reach out for assistance when confronted with challenges. Additionally, Lyonpo emphasized the importance of positive thinking and cautioned against the dangers of substance abuse, advocating for a healthier lifestyle. Lyonpo actively engaged with students addressing their concerns and fostering an environment of open dialogue.
In separate meetings with teaching faculty, Lyonpo outlined the Ministry’s 13th five-year plan strategies aimed at ensuring teachers’ professional development and conducive working environments. Discussions also involved issues such as moderation exercises, IWPs, attrition rates and infrastructure development. Recognizing teachers’ unwavering dedication, Lyonpo urged them to provide feedback and continue supporting efforts to improve the education system.
As part of the visit, Lyonpo also toured the school campus to understand the working environment and the accessibility of facilities such as ICT and science labs, libraries, staff rooms and hostels. It was noted that improvements are needed in these facilities to enhance the learning experience.
The school visit not only provided Lyonpo with invaluable insights into the challenges faced by school management but also served as a platform for constructive dialogue to enhance the quality of education and address systemic issues. By engaging directly with them, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to prioritize education and ensure the well-being of students and educators.
During the visit to Samtse Dzongkhag from April 4-12, Lyonpo was accompanied by the Director of the Department of Education Programmes, heads of the Dzongkhag Education Sector, local leaders and senior officials from the Ministry. Dasho Ugyen Lama, the Member of Parliament also joined the entourage on April 11.
