Mr. Tim Curtis pays a courtesy call on Hon’ble Lyonpo
Mr. Tim Curtis paid a courtesy call to the Hon’ble Education and Skills Development Lyonpo, marking his first visit to Bhutan after being appointed as the Director of the New Delhi Regional Office and UNESCO Representative to Bhutan, India, Maldives and Sri Lanka. Mr. Tim is here to participate in the Annual United Nations Bhutan Country Team Retreat scheduled from March 25-29.
The meeting held on March 25 provided an invaluable opportunity for constructive dialogue concerning Bhutan’s national priorities with a particular emphasis on potential collaborative efforts between UNESCO and Bhutan in the education sector. The Minister shared insightful plans regarding education in the 13th Five-Year Plan.
UNESCO reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives such as teacher training and fostering the Greening Education Partnership. This partnership aims to aid Bhutan in addressing the climate crisis by leveraging the crucial role of education across four key areas: Greening Curriculum, Greening Schools, Greening Communities, and Greening Teacher Training and Education Systems’ Capacities. Rooted in UNESCO’s extensive work in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) with a specific focus on education’s role in combating climate change, the organization aims to empower individuals and communities with the skills, values, and attitudes necessary for building a green, low-emission and climate-resilient societies.
The call on underscores the deepening relationship between Bhutan and UNESCO setting the stage for impactful collaborations that will contribute to the advancement of the country’s education system.
