18th Y-PEER NToT workshop in Thimphu ends
Coordinated by Program Coordination Division of the Department of Education Programs, the 18th National Training of Trainers (NToT) workshop for Y-PEER members that had begun on January 13 has ended yesterday.
The workshop was aimed to build the capacity of Y-PEER members to provide quality programs and services related to sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) to their peers and other youth. The division provides such training programs to Y-PEER members at regular intervals to ensure that Y-PEER programs are sustainable.
Y-PEER is a network of young peer educators specialized in the promotion of SRHR through peer-to-peer approach. First established in Bhutan in 2012 as part of the global network to advocate on SRHR-related issues among youth, the group currently has 19 Networks based in various RUB colleges and Technical Training Institutes. One of the most unique features of this youth group is that it focuses on peer-to-peer approach which helps youth connect with each other better and more easily.
Within five days, the participants were introduced to various aspects of SRHR issues and how to help themselves and their peers cope with those issues. They were also provided with different skills such as facilitation/co-facilitation, leadership, effective communication, team building, etc. All the knowledge and skills provided during the training were designed to make them good facilitators/trainers for Y-PEER Networks. The sessions were facilitated by senior Y-PEER members with technical support from the Program Coordination Division.
A total of 58 youth (29 boys and 35 girls) attended the training. The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Program Officer of the division. It was supported by Robert Carr Fund, Y-PEER Asia-Pacific Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
