Strengthening Adult Literacy and Lifelong Learning through the Bridge Bhutan Project
We are delighted to share that the Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Jungyoul Lee; Political/Economic Affairs Researcher, Ms. Haeyeon Kim and Young Professional, Mr. Jiho Park from the Korean Embassy in Bangladesh is in the country from July 13-16 to monitor the projects funded by the Korean Government. The mission’s primary focus is the ‘Bridge Programme Phase 2 (Bhutan)’, a capacity-building initiative aimed at enhancing adult literacy and lifelong learning in Bhutanese non-formal education sector.
Yesterday, the delegation held meetings with the coordinating and implementing agencies of the Bridge Bhutan Project including the Bhutan National Commission for UNESCO and the Non-Formal Education Unit, Programme and Youth Coordination Division under the Department of Education Programmes. The team also had the opportunity to visit two remarkable community learning centres (CLCs), Rinchen Kuenphen CLC and Zilnoen Namgyel CLC in Thimphu where they interacted with trainees and witnessed the positive impact of the project first-hand.
The Bridge Bhutan Project launched in 2020 is a five-year project aimed at enhancing adult literacy and skills development in Bhutan. It is financially supported by the Korean National Commission for UNESCO (KNCU) with an annual funding of USD 200,000 (Nu.14M). Their unwavering commitment to increase access to equitable and quality education and enhance satisfaction with life among the learners of non-formal education programmes including vocational training and literacy classes is truly commendable.
The Republic of Korea and KNCU’s commitment to Bridge Bhutan Project has been instrumental in promoting social inclusion, empowering individuals and fostering a culture of lifelong learning in Bhutan.
We look forward to continued collaboration and partnership, working hand in hand to achieve common goals and aspirations.
